Different Things to Do Around the City Different
Some folks are new to Santa Fe, others are native, or like me have now spent most of their lives here. Whatever the case, here are some ideas for things to do, that are different from the famous markets and tourist destinations. |
BASEBALL
The Santa Fe Fuego are a professional baseball team based in Santa Fe. The team has been a member of the Pecos League, an independent league (not affiliated with a Major or Minor League) since 2012. The team plays home games at downtown Fort Marcy Ballfield with bleachers, a food truck, and enthusiastic regulars. It’s a great family or evening activity. Come cheer the local team, sit outside and have a few street tacos. For the schedule go to: www.santafefuego.com

HORSE BACK RIDING
Open year round, Broken Saddle offers horseback riding with a private guide from the historic village of Cerrillos to surrounding areas. I took my niece, and we rode through the scenic hills with spectacular 360º views of all the area’s mountain ranges, and past an old mine. Trips can include the Madrid Overlook, La Bajada Overlook, Devil's Canyon, Crooked Hat Canyon, Elkins Canyon, Cash Entry Mine, Grand Central Silver Mine, Franklin Ridge and Miner's Trail. Smooth riding gaited horses are comfortable for all skill levels. It was fantastic! www.brokensaddle.com

UNIQUE DINING & LODGING
Recently I was invited to the “soft opening” of NOSA Restaurant and Inn, located at Rancho Ojo in Ojo Caliente. This fabulous spot is approximately five miles from Ojo Caliente Hot Springs, 45 minutes from Santa Fe, and a peaceful drive up north. I wish I had taken more photos of the duck/mushroom paella or custard dessert with wild berries. The restaurant is open for brunch Saturday and Sundays, until they get their liquor license (soon); then chef Graham Dodd and the owners will offer a full schedule. To experience this very, special country inn go to www.nosanm.com

HACIENDA’S PARADE OF HOMES
The Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association hosts this open house showcasing 13 homes by premier builders for two weekends, August 12-14 & 19-21, from 10am to 5pm. The self-guided tour of new and newly-remodeled homes celebrates the best in design and construction, including “green” technologies, allowing you to explore the unique use of materials, techniques and philosophies that define “Santa Fe Style,” from traditional to contemporary. Let me know if you discover something wonderful I can share with others. And enjoy the final days of summer, wherever you are. |
