Wildfires: How to Help, How to Prepare

Our hearts go out to all of the families and communities who have been affected by recent wildfire disasters in our beautiful state. I'm sure you have a desire to help in any you can, as we do. And a concern to protect your own property. Here is a list we have compiled, with links to learn more about what you can do to help. We hope you find this useful. Stay safe!

How You Can Help

Donations are the best way to aid the regional relief efforts. Here are local, state, and federal agencies who are accepting monetary donations and dry goods to provide aid and shelter.

New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (NMDHSEM) has information about federal assistance, housing, how to donate, and current fire information across the state. www.nmdhsem.org/2022-wildfires/

All Together New Mexico Fund is accepting monetary donations. Support will go to emergency shelter, food and water distribution, and other critical services. www.alltogethernm.org/

Santa Fe Fire Station 5, 1042-1072 Siler Rd, is accepting dry goods only on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Food Depot Disaster Relief Fund is accepting both dry goods and monetary donations. thefooddepot.org/disaster-relief/

Glorieta Adventure Camps at 1 NM-50, Glorieta, is accepting small carload donations (food, clothing, hygiene products, pet supplies, etc.) (505) 757-6161

HELPNM helps provide voucher’s for food, shelter etc. with your monetary donation. helpnm.com/

Las Vegas New Mexico Community Foundation accepts monetary donations for the the Hermit’s Peak Wildfire Relief Fund www.lvnmcf.org/donate-now/

Santa Fe Community Foundation: Grants from the Resiliency Fund will go to emergency shelter and lodging, food and water distribution, and other critical services. The Santa Fe Community Foundation

State Employees Credit Union  All goods and funds collected will be provided to the Santa Fe Fire Department and Food Depot and distributed directly to those affected.

How to Prepare Yourself

The City of Santa Fe's website has  details of current fire restrictions, guidelines to avoid setting a fire, Ready Santa Fe app, sign up for ALERT Santa Fe Emergency Alerts and Notifications, and links to other resources. www.santafenm.gov/wildfireinfo2022

The Greater Santa Fe Fireshed Coalition offers all-around wildfire preparedness recommendations in English and Spanish. Ready-Set-Go Personal Wildfire Action Plan, is a downloadable 17-page pdf with suggestions and checklists.
