1st Wednesday of every month we gather at Sonoma Portworks to tell some true personal stories. If you want to tell a story, just toss your name in the hat. 10 tellers max. get chosen to tell their tale. They tell a 5 Minute-True Story based on that evening's theme.
At the end of the evening, one teller is chosen as the audience favorite and is invited into the GrandSlam in December @ The Mystic Theatre in downtown Petaluma. It’s that simple, really.

Enjoy warm fall colors while learning about California native plants and shopping for new additions to your garden. California natives are optimal for saving water, attracting pollinators, creating habitat for wildlife, and adding a beautiful local touch to your landscape. The plants for sale are tended with love and care all year round by dedicated CNPS Milo Baker volunteers.
Explore the grounds, visit the native plant garden, and stop by Heron Hall for educational activities and displays. It's also a chance to see the latest Heron Hall exhibit “A Watershed Event” by artist James R. Reynolds.

At Sturgeon’s Mill, you can bask in the rich resonance of more than 100 years of California history. Imagine the mighty redwoods that passed through this once-bustling facility, creating the timber that built a great state. Close your eyes, and you can almost hear the voices of the workmen as they labored and laughed together. Members of the restoration project will activate and run the mill to demonstrate its workings. There will be tours given by Docents who will give you a history of the mill and answer questions. It is a wonderful opportunity to experience the mill as it was in its hey-day.
If you take pictures, the best time to record the steam engines is in the morning when the temperature is lowest to show off the steam.

Join Pepperwood Preserve and Laguna de Santa Rosa Foundation staff and naturalists for a day of birding from the wetlands to the headwaters. We will look for a variety of year-round resident birds, the first migrants passing through, and those arriving to stay for the winter. We will start the day at Laguna de Santa Rosa – heading first to Santa Rosa Creek and then on to Delta Pond. As we explore these two water features we will keep our eyes and ears open for Nuttall’s Woodpeckers, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Great Egrets, and American White Pelicans as well as many other riparian and waterbird species. After lunch, we will reconvene in the Mayacamas Mountains to explore the birds of Pepperwood’s oak woodland and grassland habitats. Here we will be on the lookout for Oak Titmice, Northern Harriers, Say’s Phoebes, and Meadowlarks. Expect a wonderfully robust species list as a result of this big day of birding!

In October of 1864, Buena Vista Winery hosted the first Masquerade Ball in California’s history—-honoring that year’s magnificent harvest. Our Count Haraszthy had acquired the most modern equipment available; the finest presses, pumps, and crusher-destemmers. Most of these technological marvels were powered by the Wonder of the Age: the steam engine. Our Steam-Punk themed 2019 Harvest Masquerade Ball celebrates this exciting moment in History, when elegant 19th Century fashion collided with the wonders of modern technology!
Dance the night away on the third floor of the Historic Champagne Cellar and enjoy a modern twist on a historic ball with great music, light hors-d’oeuvres, and delicious Buena Vista wines. Guests are encouraged to dress for the occasion with their favorite Steam-Punk themed masquerade style mask and evening attire.
