CITY LIVING with The Stein Team

All in all, February was a good month.  We saw a significant uptick in bids and accepted offers.  Moving into March and the start of the Spring buying season –driven by Wall Street bonuses and school admission news -  we are cautiously optimistic for BOTH buyers and sellers.  By no means has the market shifted away from a Buyer’s Market , however a combination of pent-up demand and far more responsible pricing has led to an increase in “meetings of the mind”.  As long as pricing continues to reflect the market conditions and buyers see some form of discount, we expect the shift from Winter into Spring to be active.

Below is a video of Jeremy sharing tips and advice on bidding wars in a buyer’s market.

HOME DECOR TRENDS

SPLASHY BACKSPLASH

Simple and monochromatic kitchens have been and will forever be staples in homes, but as of late, many are gravitating toward making more of an impact in their kitchens. That impact can be seen in the form of bolder color choices and graphic tiles. Backsplashes are becoming splashier and we've collected some of our favorites that are sure to give you some courage to add more of a splash in your own kitchen.

ARCHITECT SPOTLIGHT

MARINO TAKES MANHATTAN

Shopping is considered an art on the upper stretches of Fifth Avenue. From Rockefeller Center to The Plaza, the Avenue is peppered with the flagship stores of some of retail's biggest names: Tiffany & Co., Bergdorf Goodman, Versace, and Prada, to only name a few. But, there's been a fashion heavyweight that's been missing in on the action, as of late: Chanel.

The world-renowned French brand recently rang in the new year by reopening it's flagship store, the largest it's ever built at 14,000 square feet, right off Fifth on East 57th Street. Having undergone a drastic remodel under the guise of innovative architect Peter Marino, the new store screams luxury, inside and out, from the striking glass façade covering six stories, and an expansion of retail space from three to five floors. Notably marked by its graphic exterior composed of white printed glass panels framed by a thin black metal grid, Marino’s design references the brand’s color palette and emblematic tweed. The "pièce de résistance" of the space, however, is the  60-foot tall sculpture evoking a strand of timeless pearls, a nod to the pearl necklaces once worn by Coco Chanel. Designed by Jean-Michel Othoniel, the sculpture extends down a central staircase within the store, as seen in the photograph above.

As it seems, all eyes are on Peter Marino in New York. A stone's throw away from Chanel, you will find The Lobster Club, a colorful restaurant under famous sushi Chef Tasuku Marakami in the historic Seagram building that was designed by Marino. Opened in 2017, it's still one of the city's hardest reservations to nab. And if Marino's resumé was not full enough, he's putting his name on one of Manhattan's most unique new residential developments,  The Getty. Comprised of six bespoke residences over twelve floors, it already sold its three-story penthouse for $59 million ahead of completion.
