A Neighborhood Holding On To its History: Greenwich Village
Although New Yorkers are all too familiar with change, it is sometimes nice when things simply stay the same. This can be said for one of Manhattan's trophy neighborhoods, Greenwich Village.
As NYC has recently experienced one of it's biggest residential development booms in downtown neighborhoods such as TriBeCa, Western Chelsea, and even SoHo, because of its landmark status and devoted group of local preservationists, Greenwich Village has seen less development overall - as the process of pulling projects together proves to be complex, costly and time-consuming.
While uber-luxury Manhattan real estate has recently begun to soften, demand for the Village has never been higher. And those who have managed to develop the area have reaped heavy rewards: 150 Charles sold out in just three months, and more recently Greenwich Lane's penthouse apartment recently went into contract for $45M - a record sum for Greenwich Village.
